About Asian Institute of Gastroenterology
The aim is to offer world class patient care in Gastroenterology related disorders. To achieve this the institute is well equipped with advanced technology and dedicated faculty, sub specialized in different areas in Gastroenterology.
Another objective of the institute is to produce dedicated, competent specialists in the field of Gastroenterology. To achieve this, the institute offers a structured teaching and training program in Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology disciplines leading to the award of DNB degree. In addition the institute offers PhD in different areas of Gastroenterology. The institute conducts regular workshops and CME programs and also takes part in various national and international workshops. It has the credit of training many national and international doctors in acquiring advanced endoscopic skills.
Another goal of the institute is research in the field of Gastroenterology, to find answers to many gastroenterology disorders. To achieve this the institute has established high quality research lab with dedicated and experienced scientists. The institute is collaborating with various national and international research centers to achieve this objective.
The fourth goal of the institute is preventive gastroenterology, to prevent various preventable gastrointestinal and liver disorders. To achieve this the institute offers health care to the rural public under the auspices of charitable trust ‘Asian Health Care Foundation’. Initially this will cover the State of Andhra Pradesh. The specialist gastroenterology health care is offered at the door step of the patients, by means of fully equipped mobile gastroenterology units. In addition to this, various epidemiologic data is collected regarding various gastrointestinal and liver diseases. This epidemiologic data will help the research wing in targeting the research towards these areas, so that the research output can be fruitfully translated to clinical benefit to suit our patients.
History Of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology
Asian Institute of Gastroenterology was established as a new concept of day care unit where major Endoscopic surgical procedures could be done on an outpatient basis without resorting to hospitalization. Since then the institute has become one of the largest referral centers in Asia for Therapeutic Endoscopy. Patients are referred from not only most cities in India but also from surrounding countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal etc.,
It has the credit of doing the largest number of ERCP procedures in the world. In addition to routine gastrointestinal procedures like Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP (Diagnostic & Therapeutic). Our institute is one of the few centers in the country doing Endoscopic Ultra Sonography, Endoscopic Sewing, Capsule Endoscopy and E S W L (Extra corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy ).
Asian Institute of Gastroenterology then evolved in to a full fledged 250 bedded single specialty hospital with all Gastroenterology subspecialties. It has state-of-the-art operation theatres to perform all major and minor surgeries related to Gastroenterology and Liver diseases and also backed up by well equipped dedicated medical and surgical intensive care units. The hospital also has excellent facilities for advanced interventional radiological procedures.
The hospital then evolved in to a single specialty institute with the addition of full fledged Research wing and Community gastroenterology wing.
The research wing which is well equipped with latest gadgets, has dedicated scientists undertaking basic and advanced research in gastroenterology. Asian Institute of Gastroenterology has tied up with Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and foreign universities like North Western University of Chicago and University of Texas Medical branch for Genetic Research in many areas like Stem cell, Vaccine for Hepatitis E and Gene mutation etc.,
The Institute also offers education and training in Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology leading to the award of DNB degree. It is also offering PhD in various Gastroenterology subspecialties. In addition to this the institute has the reputation of conducting the most popular International Endoscopic workshop every two years.
The Institute is headed by Dr D Nageshwar Reddy who has been the recipient of several national and international awards including the prestigious DR B C Roy Award given by the Indian Medical Council and Padmasri Award by Government of India. Dr D Nageshwar Reddy is also the visiting Professor to the Harvad Medical School – USA, Era Same Hospital – Brussels and Fujigoka Hospital – Tokyo.
